JAYJ Foundation’s Board of Directors and the 2020 Valentine’s Soirée Committee Members would like to express our sincere gratitude and thanks to all who attended and supported the 2nd Edition of the JAYJ Foundation “Valentine’s Soirée” fundraising event on February 8, 2020. We are grateful for the generosity of our guests, volunteers and local businesses for making this event a success.
We were delighted to honor Bob Downey, Assistant Director of Clinical Laboratory Application for Sysmex America, a global leader in Clinical laboratory systemization and solutions with this year's JAYJ Foundation Trailblazer Award for his unwavering dedication and love
in ensuring that Sickle Cell Disease children In Haiti has a fighting chance against this dreadful disease. Bob has also worked in rural Haiti, specifically in the Grand’Anse, Jeremie region, supporting medical clinics and consulting for a variety of labs. In addition to his work in Haiti, he has also been involved on laboratory improvement projects in East Africa. Bob will oversee the JAYJ Foundation Haiti Sickle Cell Initiative in the Southern part of Haiti.
But the real heroes of the night were all of YOU who attended in support of women and children who are less fortunate and in dire need of basic items in their daily lives. Words can't express the appreciation we all have for your willingness to share your time and money to help this Foundation to fulfill its mission. We extend our gratitude to our inaugural event sponsors, William G. Bob Downey, recipient of the 2020 JAYJ Foundation Trailblazer Award with President, Valentine Joseph
Alexandra Theodore, our 2020 Keynote Speaker, is a Sickle Cell Warrior. Alexandra was born and raised in New York City. She moved to North Carolina five years ago with her son to complete her bachelor’s degree and gain better control of her health in a warmer climate. She believes in accomplishing her goals on her own schedule. She is currently working as a Substitute Teacher for Mecklenburg County, NC. She enjoys volunteering her time to help Piedmont Health Services & Sickle Cell Agency reach the younger sickle cell community through educational and social events. As a Sickle Cell Warrior herself, she believes sharing her life story can help others avoid common health mistakes.
